In February of 2013, a week into shooting and being on the road with Rebel Without a Kitchen, Matt Basile (my business partner and boyfriend) and I found out that we would be working with Penguin on our very own cookbook. It was a true collaboration, with Matt’s background as a copywriter and I freelancing as a food photographer, we couldn't have been more excited to work on our first cookbook together. For the following 6 months, while associate producing and Matt filming the show, we travelled across North America shooting and hearing dozens of stories of street food vendors across the continent. From meeting with Fatima, first halal vendor in New York, to sharing the story of Marianne, Toronto’s beloved hot dog vendor who brings communities together with her Love Plate, we connected with some of the most passionate cooks, chefs, food truck owners and street vendors imaginable. Here are some of the pictures from that adventure.
